RoadScout
The company has produced the RoadScout. This high-speed road pavement surface and sub-surface imaging system can scan the full legal vehicle width to produce a full 3D Iso-surface image of the sub-surface of the highway or road. In addition it produces images of the road surface using a line scan camera, has GPS, inertial and encoder sensors, and a panorama camera system capturing roadside features, to better geo-locate the system when analyzing the data. All this at speeds of up to 100 KPH without the need for traffic controls.
Director of RPS, Dr Bryan Reeves said, "…what we have is unique." "It is not just a highly sophisticated 3D Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system, but allows full analysis of the road you are scanning, leading to a better understanding of the condition and life of the asset."
Surface imaging is useful in combination with the GPR data, increasing the understanding of the cause of surface deterioration. The system collects location information from six cameras, improving positioning of the surface and subsurface measurements, through the use of road-side features, to an accuracy higher than that achieved using only GPS. The result is a total package, designed to accurately, robustly and quickly determine road conditions.
Once collected, the information is downloaded to a server system for processing using the RPS Portal4D software package. Analysis allows key features within the surface and subsurface data to be extracted, from which it can be exported to a database, excel, kml or SegY (other formats available on request).
